i was sitting under water when i heard the pounding of my heart in steady rhythmic thumping. i was sitting submerged as an act of rebellion. really that sounds too brave. it was probably more like an act of fleeing. under water everything outside is more distant and muffled. water becomes this wonderful protective layer in between me and everything i don't want to face. well, kind of. under water you hear yourself more clearly. its like every movement is magnified, but if you manage to relax all your muscles, that pounding will fill your ears. thump. thump. thump. thump.
it was then that i was truly happy to be alive. my heart's work was testament to my mind that life is resilient and that it is good. gratefulness welled up inside of me to a God who gives life. this is good. this is an incredible good.
(pump on little heart.)
