cardboard speaks.

a couple of weekends ago i was talking to my best friend's husband, brent, and he related to me how he saw this guy in the middle of joco with "our God reigns" and similar things window painted over his bmw as he sat on the side of the road with a cardboard sign saying "repent the end is near."

brent's response: "yeaaaah, i wish i was out there with him"

my outward response: "yeah man, that's awesome."
inside that translated to: "yeah you man, not me."

i squeamish about cardboard evangelism. okay, it's beyond squeamish. i don't like it. at all.

insert here one of the most vibrant ladies in my Christian community. she is ecstatic about going down to the ville and doing exactly that: cardboard evangelism. as she is sharing this plan with a group of gals we're with you can see them all begin to shift uncomfortably, including me. but of course despite, or maybe more accurately in spite of, my reservations i jumped on the band wagon.

sooo, this lovely lady, another fellow, and I, after masterfully creating cardboard signs reading things like "where does love come from?" "do you ever feel like there's something more?" and "is there a God?", made our way down to the ville and popped a squat in a nook right outside of envy on the strip.

you'd never believe the pride i have. the entire time i'm sitting there only half-heartedly enjoying the awesomeness of God because the other half is convinced that some how i, perhaps through prophetic gifting, will be able to pull this idea out of the gutter and bring glory to the Father. yeah. no.

God is far better than that. in fact He blessed our socks off, despite, or, yet again in spite of, me. not only was it awesome fellowship with some awesome people, but He opened hearts and moved in ways that only He could. it came in one big punch. 4 guys. 4 stories. 2 open and eager. 1 burnt by the church and searching. 1 looking at a long-legged girl in the short blue dress declaring the Bible was impossible because how could you not lust looking at that.

it was good. it was incredibly good. everyone there got a huge slice of God's heart AND i received the much needed blow of the holy 2x4 to the head. God's got good aim. trust me.

my conclusion: cardboard speaks better than a prideful heart. kinda a duh isn't it? i'll have to work on spicing up these ending remarks...

peace in love
nic
