comfort extended from the metal heads

So I've had two people send me songs after Brock's funeral that I think are particularly apropos. The first song is from Brock's cousin James and it doesn't get all hardcore and whatnot until 2 1/2 mins into the song, but Project 86 is from Schwartz and if you don't like hard music I'd suggest just reading the lyrics. I'm particularly fond of Schwartz explanation of the song and I quote "I'm picturing Brock standing with both middle fingers firmly extended with a smug smile on his face as the rug gets pulled on death..."

Laid to Rest - The Showdown

What was left
A skin naught but scars life spent waging a war for a King he’d yet to see
How sweet now his rest
Clothed in splendor and joy in the presence of God how he sings

Rise up and meet your father
Joyous at the return of his son
And the world and its troubles mean nothing
Only comfort and rest in his arms

I long to see your face
I long to be at rest
I long to end this war
I long for you to take me home
I long to see your face
I long to be at rest
I long to end this war
I long for you to take me home

Rise up and meet your father
Joyous at the return of his son
And the world and its troubles mean nothing
Only comfort and rest in his arms

I long to see your face (Rise up and meet your father)
I long to be at rest (Joyous at the return of his son)
I long to end this war (And the world and its troubles mean nothing)
I long for you to take me home (Only comfort and rest in his)
I long to see your face (arms)
I long to be at rest (Only comfort and rest in his)
I long to end this war (arms)
I long for you to take me home

The Butcher - Project 86

This man came to me he was looking for action
Pulling a blade to my neck
He said, “Call me the butcher cause that's my trade
And you know that I’ve come to collect.”

I said
Hit me now
and we’ll see where it leads
Cut me out
if you think I will bleed
Strike me down
If you think you’re a man
Cause I know that you don't understand...

Because there is no weapon, there is no blade (You wonder why I’m not afraid?)
There is no weapon, there is no blade (You’ll never kill him that lives inside of me)

He looked into my eyes, all he saw was conviction
Dropping the blade to the earth
I said, “How could you think that I’d ever retreat?
You know that I’m already dead.”

I said
Hit me now
and we’ll see where it leads
Cut me out
if you think I will bleed
Strike me down
If you think you’re a man
Cause I know that you don't understand...

Because there is no weapon, there is no blade (You wonder why I’m not afraid?)
There is no weapon, there is no blade (I’ve erased all of my fear of the grave)
There is no weapon, there is no blade (You wonder why I’m not afraid?)
There is no weapon, there is no blade (You’ll never kill him that lives inside of me)

  1. Goosebumps. I want to hear both of those. I'll have to look them up or maybe you can bring them over if you have them. :) And thanks for sharing Schwartz's quote. It made me giggle, in a "darn straight I want to flip off death but that surprises me a little that he said that" sort of way. :)
